About Hog Zilla Spray Attractant

I have been hunting wild hogs in South Georgia for many years now and I have always been amazed at how effective peanut butter is as a hog bait and attractant. Over the years I have tried many different types of attractants, baits and strategies to lure trophy hogs out of the river bottom but peanut butter has always been the most productive. The problem with peanut butter is availability, cost, transportation to the hunting area and the amount of cleanup involved after the fact. I have been able to put a lot of meat in the freezer over the years hunting over 55 gallon drums of (out of spec) peanut butter. Needless to say, you don't just drive up to the local feed store and load up on 55 gallon drums of peanut butter. They are cumbersome to work with, you need to know somebody in order to get your hands on them and they are not always available when you need them. Besides, how many guys do you know that can toss a full 55 gallon drum around without throwing their back out in the process? Working with a 55 gallon drum of peanut butter has its own set of problems...If you are an avid hog hunter you may have tried using a variety of different hog attractants over the years. Have you ever noticed that the scent produced by most of these attractants never quite seems to last very long? It is definitely gone by the next day. So, the idea for Hog Zilla Spray emerged from my experiences with various hog attractants over the years and I really wanted to come up with a hearty, potent, long lasting formula that would stand out from crowd of me-too products. As a result, Peanut Butter spray attractant emerged as a ready to use, versatile, multifunctional product concept. I wanted to offer a product that could be easily applied with a sprayer for even product distribution on a variety of horizontal and vertical surfaces. A product that would last for days rather than hours. A product that would stick to the surface of leaf, absorb into the surface of dry wood or bark and one that would actually have a FLAVOR associated with it in addition to a powerful scent!

The sprayable aspect of this product is one of the KEY elements of its effectiveness.

The effectiveness of any scent designed to be detected or picked up by prey from great distances is directly proportional to the surface area coverage of the attractant, the potency of the attractant and the volatility or evaporation rate of the attractant. If it is volatile it will not stick around very long, it will evaporate into the atmosphere relatively quickly and dissipate...game over.

If a hog attractant is applied to a confined area at ground level (on a pile of corn) its effectiveness as an attractant will be limited by ground level wind speed, ambient temperature and particle distribution across the area downwind from the source. The cone-like shape of the downwind spread of the scent originates at a point fixed above the area where the greatest concentration of your attractant is poured out. The dispersion cone represents the area that the attractant is covering from the point of origin. Obviously the strength of the attractant diminishes with distance from the point of origin. It also diminishes with time as more and more of the scent particles evaporate or volatilize, further reducing the potency of the attractant. Water based attractants will evaporate quicker with elevated temperatures. Aerosol based attractants will evaporate faster than water based liquids.

Evaporation rates (volatility) and the primary location of the highest concentration of your attractant are critical factors in determining:

1. The length of time that an attractant remains effective.

2. The distance that the scent particles travel downwind from the point of origin.

3. The size of the scent cone that develops downwind from the point of origin.

These are some of the fundamental limitations governing the effectiveness of any attractant utilized to draw in a trophy boar. So how do you develop a new and improved attractant with this in mind? That is the challenge. The answer is found in part by taking into account the evaporation rate of the primary fluid that carries your scent or attractant. Most of the products on the market use water as the primary carrier fluid. In the case of Hog Zilla Spray we opted to use edible oil as our carrier fluid. This oil will resist rapid evaporation. Because it has a very low evaporation rate it will stick around for several days before losing effectiveness. Our carrier fluid selection is the perfect solution to the problem of rapid evaporation. Not only does it resist evaporation, it also resists water wash off or dilution so it remains effective even if you get stuck hunting in the rain.

The objective of creating a powerful downwind cone of peanut butter odor is relative to the amount of surface area you can cover with the product itself. If you simply poured it out and onto an area that is 4X4 ft. you would be concentrating all of the fragrance or scent in a confined area thus reducing the size of your downwind scent cone. What you want to accomplish is the MAXIMIZATION of your scent cone. So, the bottom line is that you really want to cover some elevated vegetation in the area in addition to the corn pile itself. Spraying elevated surfaces in the area with attractant is superior to pouring all of it out in one single spot. This is the basic principle of the aerosol delivery system marketed by Buckbomb. In order to cover elevated surfaces you need a specialized sprayer that is specifically designed for oils. With this type of delivery system you are in control and can coat or spray down a very large surface area of elevated vegetation in addition to ground cover, fallen timber and of course a pile of corn. You can easily spray elevated areas on trees with Hog Zilla Spray. Spraying the leaves on trees surrounding your hunting area will vastly expand the downwind scent cone which will then carry the aroma of peanut butter deeper into the thick, wooded area where the hogs are laid up.

The extremely long lasting aroma of Hog Zilla Spray is a function of the concentration of the peanut butter flavoring that we add to our base oil and the evaporation rate of the oil itself. The reason that the aroma of peanut butter will linger for days after it is applied is due to the physical properties of the base oil carrier fluid. These chemical properties dramatically improve the drawing effectiveness of Hog Zilla peanut butter spray. You are sure to realize greater success in drawing out trophy boar and hogs with the Hog Zilla spray formula.

Good Hunting!
